Below you’ll find an award-winning poem by the talented young poet, Jemima Mahon. Jemima is the niece of MoPA’s Founders, Tom and Billie, and is currently undertaking her early high-school education in the UK. As part of her studies, Jemima submitted the poem you’ll find below; a poem all about… You guessed it – The Power of Play.
With her work, Jemima won the award pictured – and in doing so, became the official Poem Laureate of the Blue School.
Jemima’s family and friends couldn’t be more proud; her work provides true insight into the role of play throughout our lives… And we know you’ll enjoy it as much as we do!
The Power of Play
I don’t need gold or fancy toys, Just an open space and lots noise A ball and a stick, a world to create, A castle as tall, and dragon’s lake.
I run and play, I play and fall, To be the hero and save them all. A cardboard box into a teddie house a paper crown to rule the town! I’ll rule the stars, I take them down
I play with friends, I play all day long, In every game, my world expands. A stage, a scene, a line to say I’m a new part in every play.
But play’s not just for fun and laughter, I still have to rush to tea after. A race, a joke, a secret plan, I learn to lose, I learn I can.
So when they say, “you will grow up someday,” I’ll smile and laugh, then run away. For in my heart, I’ll always stay, A kid at soul, who loves to play.
Today was one of the highlights in MoPA’s lil’ lifetime — with the team from @sunriseon7, including the hilarious @sammacinsta, joining us at MoPA to explore our new Museum in Nunawading!
To the production and studio teams from @channel7 - thank you. You were an absolute delight to host. The way you made all our staff and guests feel confident in themselves and valued as participants in your broadcast is a testament to your genuine kindness and expertise 😘 xx
Get ready for a pop of pumpkin fun this Halloween! Inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s iconic spotted pumpkins, children are invited to design their very own timber pumpkin.
Wear it as a necklace or hang it up at home - the perfect mix of art, style, and spooooky fun. You do NOT wanna miss THIS one!
An entire year in the making - but it’s finally ready. Can’t WAIT to show you all this incredible Museum!! Please remember to book ahead because all sessions in all our Museums are always operating with our regular comfy capacity limits. x
LITTLE KNOW FACT: MoPA is the exclusive distributor!
For years we witnessed how engaging these beautiful BIG blocks are. We gathered so much evidence in their outcomes, and developed so much belief in their impact, that we eventually decided to establish a manufacturing partnership that would enable us to place the blocks in ALL our Museums. But what we also learned was that all sorts of other schools, museums, galleries, ELCs (even wineries!) would love a set of BIG blocks of their own. So we started to provide BIG blocks to all of these wonderful organisations!
Fast forward to today = MoPA is now the exclusive distributor. We send BIG block sets all over APAC!! And nothing gives us more joy than receiving all the photos of all the creations children are dreaming up.
So... If you’d like a set of blue blocks for YOUR facility, please jump onto the website or give us a shout on 1800 00 66 72 to learn more. xx
Introducing “Patchwork Portraits” NOW SHOWING at MoPA - from OCT 6 right up until NOV 30.
“Emotions and Well-being” is a hugely important component of the Early Years Learning Framework (“EYLF”); and it’s what MoPA’s brand new activities are all about. Every child that visits MoPA this month will be invited to use our craft templates and materials to develop their very own conceptual characters - and then to bring their creations to life using a range of powerfully emotive features.
Happy apples? Grumpy brushes too? Surprised Pops? Maybe... Maybe not. It’s entirely up to you :)
Our past character-building workshops have been HUGE - and we’re positive that “Patchwork Portraits” will be no exception. We can’t wait to see you all at your local MoPA this October!
