How to support the EYLF at home
Parents hold incredible power in shaping their children’s early years, and it’s all about creating a loving and supportive environment at home. The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) provides some fantastic principles that parents can weave into their everyday routines to make those early years truly enriching.
First and foremost, it’s all about building connections and a sense of belonging. Parents can nurture this by spending quality time with their children, chatting, playing, and really listening to them. Those little family traditions and routines? They’re not just rituals; they’re building blocks for your child’s sense of identity and place in the world.
Then there’s the joy of ‘being.’ Letting kids be kids—exploring, imagining, and creating—is essential. Parents can set up spaces at home where children can dive into their imaginations, whether it’s with art supplies, building blocks, or even just a big cardboard box. It’s about encouraging curiosity and letting their personalities shine.
As for ‘becoming,’ that’s about celebrating each step of your child’s journey. Whether it’s mastering a new skill, discovering a passion, or simply expressing themselves, parents can be there to cheer them on and provide support along the way. It’s about recognizing that every child is unique and helping them grow into the best version of themselves.
Finally, learning is all around us, even in the simplest of moments. From cooking together to counting flowers in the garden, parents can turn everyday activities into opportunities for learning and discovery. It’s about fostering a love of learning that will stay with them for life.
So, by embracing these principles and infusing a little love and creativity into everyday life, parents can truly make the early years a magical and transformative time for their children. After all, there’s nothing more rewarding than watching your little ones grow and flourish before your eyes.

Inspired by all the incredible children’s museums overseas, we came home from a trip six years ago convinced that Australia deserved something just as special.
And, so, with more optimism than sense, we took the plunge: we designed and built our first museum. It’s been a roller coaster since then. In six years this uber talented team of now 120+ people has achieved some huge milestones:
