ALL ABOUT ART CLASS

LEARN MORE

Wondering about class times, what to pack, or how the sessions work? We’ve answered all your questions below to help make your child’s enrolment and participation journey as smooth as possible.

When are the classes?

MoPA’s Afternoon Art Classes run from 4pm until 5.30pm on weekdays. Classes will operate mainly on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from the second week of each term, for a period of 8 consecutive weeks.

When you enrol for a term (which you can do by clicking “SELECT YOUR AFTERNOON”) you can enrol on the specific weekday that suits your schedule. Your workshop will then operate on that day for eight consecutive weeks.

Note: Details such as the length of each school term, and the way public holidays fall, can impact the exact dates that each class may take place. To view specific dates for any given term, click “SELECT YOUR AFTERNOON” and you will find that all of the exact dates for each class are provided for your convenience.

WHAT IF I MISS ONE OR TWO CLASSES?

If you are unable to attend one or two workshops during the term, that is absolutely fine – we simply ask that you provide as much notice as possible. The teachers can then ensure your child is prepared before and after the date that they are away, so that they can participate in all the other workshops as normal.

Please note that with all supplies and planning put in place before term starts, no refunds or concessions are able to be provided for absenteeism of any kind.

WHAT DO THE CHILDREN DO AT ART CLASS?

Once a week, your child will embark on a creative journey that stretches far beyond traditional art-making. Each 90-minute workshop is thoughtfully structured to include hands-on experimentation with different artistic mediums, techniques, and possibilities. They’ll get their hands messy with paints one week, sculpt and mould with varied materials the next, weave magical textile creations, and combine unexpected elements in mixed-media projects – all while being encouraged to follow their own creative instincts.

Every term weaves together exciting weekly adventures that build naturally on each other, with our exceptional educators there to spark ideas, demonstrate possibilities, and support each child’s unique creative journey. The real magic happens in those wonderful moments of discovery, where children inspire each other, share techniques they’ve stumbled upon, and build confidence through experimentation.

Your child will experience the joy of creating art within our inspiring Museum space, where every corner offers new possibilities for creative thinking. They’ll collaborate with their peers, bounce ideas off each other, problem-solve together, and proudly take their completed masterpieces home to share with family.

We keep our class sizes intentionally small to ensure every young artist has the space to explore freely while still having plenty of opportunities to make friends and feel part of our wonderful creative community here at MoPA Sandringham.

WHAT DO I PACK FOR MY CHILD?

No, you do not need to send your child to their art class with anything at all. All materials, textiles, mediums, etc will all be provided and stored at MoPA between classes.

On the odd occasion, your teacher may communicate with you that some items should be worn or brought from home, however this will be an exception rather than the rule.

Note: Drinking water is also provided for children, so you needn’t pack a drink bottle, although you’re welcome to send a drink bottle with your child if you’d prefer – please see more detail below regarding food and drink.

DO I SEND A SNACK?

You may pack a drink bottle if you wish, but please do not pack any food for your child.

MoPA operates an on-site cafe at each of our Museums, and so when you book in for each term you will be provided the opportunity to select a pre-arranged snack option for your child and provide us with details regarding any dietary requirements or allergies.

MoPA’s regular food controls are also in place for all visitors to the Museum, including Art Class students. This means that no outside food is allowed on premises, helping us to manage all the allergen, food safety and insurance requirements of our complex food environment.

DO PARENTS DROP-OFF OR STAY?

Classes start at 4pm however drop-off is welcome any time from 3.45pm. Classes end at 5.30pm and pickup is at 5.30pm. Parents are required to walk their children into the Museum for the safest drop off please.

It is recommended that parents of younger children (aged 5 and under) stay and enjoy the class with their children. Parents of older children (aged 6 and over) are welcome to leave children with us at the Museum for the duration of the workshop, and return for pickup at 5.30pm.

Parents who wish to optimise their time are very welcome to grab a seat in the cafe, connect to our free wifi, and enjoy some quiet time to get some work done, for the full duration of each class.

CAN WE ENROL OR CANCEL PART-WAY THROUGH TERM?

Class sizes, supplies, staffing and resources are determined by enrolments for each term which makes changes to class enrolments a little challenging.

If you’d like to enrol mid-way through the term, please contact our wonderful team (on 1800 00 66 72) who will do their very best to find capacity in one of the classes.

If you’d like to cancel mid-way through the term, you are welcome to do so however please note that part-refunds are not available.

Does the program differ each term?

Yes! Each term is a fresh creative endeavour, with new materials to explore and exciting projects to discover. But what makes our program truly special is how our educators tailor activities to each group of children.

For our returning young artists, we build upon their previous experiences, challenging them to extend their skills and explore new creative territories.

Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning for another term of artistic discovery, every child’s creative journey is uniquely their own.

THE ART OF DRESS UPS!
Showing From Jan 2nd til’ Feb 3rd

While activities like dress-ups may seem like harmless fun, these joyful shenanigans can actually be VERY. Serious. Business...

Children (and sometimes adults!) dress up because it’s just fun, of course. But children also use these make-believe opportunities to experiment with personas and scenarios that reach far beyond regular everyday life. The dress-up games they play enhance their creative skills, and it’s also now proven that children build fundamental social skills through play; and these skills pay dividends well into adult life.

All of MoPA’s new dress-up activities, and the materials required to participate in them, are all included with all regular tickets.

Why is it so important book ahead?

As we head into the holiday period, we thought it would be helpful to remind our gorgeous guests that you must book your tickets to MoPA online, prior to arrival.

We receive amazing feedback about limiting entry numbers in order to maintain a comfortable and safe environment.

Many of the team at MoPA are parents too, and so you can be sure that we all fully appreciate how difficult it can be to be super organised with your lil’uns 24-48 hours ahead of time. Booking your tickets online, however, does mean that you will never ever find MoPA to be overcrowded - even if it’s a rainy day in the middle of the school holidays ☔️🚗🎨🌈

The first week of school holidays are already 85-90% sold out, but there are LOTS of tickets available after Xmas and into January ♥️

WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU!! x
And the MOST popular Xmas Gift @ MoPA this year is? Our limited edition Xmas Membership Pack!!

$98 for UNLIMITED MoPA visits in 2025 + free tee + free paintbrush pen + free sticker pack!! WHOA!!!

🎨🎄Mo Mo Mo, Merry Christmas🎄💝
ATTN: IT’S FREE CRAFT SNOW DOME O’CLOCK.

From today right up until Christmas eve, ALL children visiting MoPA can work with our educators to create and take home their very own PERSONALISE-ABLE SNOW DOME!!

Yep. That’s right. Snow. In a dome. AND a drawing. Also in the dome. Cutest. Gift. Ever.

A tribute to Nonny? A nod to Uncle Lach? A gift for Auntie Paula? Or perhaps simply “The place where Iggy came from” (thanks Lily, Mum did clarify that Iggy is your lil’ plush penguin).

YOUR child’s snow dome can be whatever their imagination desires; and EVERY child that visits MoPA will receive one to make and take - from now and Christmas eve. Epic.
