EXPLORING “Our Earth”

Understanding ‘our place in this world’ is a lifelong journey for most. But so many of the most important lessons are learned early in our lives, at home. 

To help facilitate the important conversations to have with children about our earth, MoPA’s educators have developed a brand new series called “OUR EARTH” with a range of in-museum activities happening this winter:

ART & CRAFT
What better way to create impactful conversations than provide opportunities to make things to take home? You simply MUST check out our new “Happy Earth” slider-art activity!

LITERATURE
We’ve curated some of the most wonderful new children’s books that will make your heart sing. Learn about the land, the sea, the sky, our bodies, our planet and our place in it…

MINDFULNESS
We’ll introduce some basic (and very very cute) concepts of mindfulness, taking some time to pause and reflect on the miracles of mother nature. You do NOT want to miss “Mindfulness YOGA”!

All “Our Earth” activities will run all day, every day, here at MoPA.

But ALSO, as a reminder of how easy it can be to make a difference, we’ve put together…

A BIG LIST OF SMALL THINGS (THAT ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE) 

  1. Ride your bike or scooter
  2. Plant some veggies
  3. Buy second hand or swap with friends

We’ve grown MoPA to 4 Museums and $30M cumulative revenue in 6 years, thanks to support from colleagues, family and friends, Australia Council for the Arts and YOU, our gorgeous guests. And so when considering how to best fund a new exhibit program, and the NATIONAL growth opportunity ahead for MoPA, it only felt right that the first people we would offer the opportunity to would be YOU: the hundreds and thousands of families who adore and regularly attend their local children’s museums (and those that desperately want a local children’s museum!).

Here’s a lil’ hint from Billie and Tom...

Inspired by all the incredible children’s museums overseas, we came home from a trip six years ago convinced that Australia deserved something just as special.

And, so, with more optimism than sense, we took the plunge: we designed and built our first museum. It’s been a roller coaster since then. In six years this uber talented team of now 120+ people has achieved some huge milestones:

🏛️ 4 (FOUR!) world-class Children’s Museums
🎟️ 1 million visits across the network so far!
🎉 200,000+ party guests at 6,000+ events
⭐ 3,000+ beautiful guest reviews

Building four museums has been exciting. But on top of that, we’ve ALSO built the systems required to support a national network of 20+ children’s museums.

Next week, we’ll invite you to be part of what comes next for MoPA. We can’t say too much more just yet. But keep your 👀 out for a very. big. announcement...

DYK: It’s Foster Carers Week this week!! This year we’re celebrating with the theme ‘Open Doors. Open Hearts. Open Opportunities’. This theme recognises foster carers who generously open their homes and hearts to help children and young people feel safe and connected, while creating opportunities for the future.

At MoPA we are so so so sooooo proud of our connection with @mackillopfamilyservices and other foster services such as @meli.community. Thank you, to each and every foster carer, for all that you do!

All foster kiddos and their families enjoy free access to MoPA: it’s the very LEAST we can do to support some of the children and families in our community who need it the most.
