Casual: Guest Services & Administration Officer

Role description:

We seek a disciplined and detail-oriented Casual Guest Services & Administration Officer to join the team. This super important role requires a person who can work within three specific disciplines: Ticketing Administration & Communication, Parties & Excursion Planning and Sales/other inquiries. The role will involve taking and processing incoming calls, emails, and social media messages, managing booking change requests, issuing credits and refunds, answering ad-hoc questions, and planning parties and excursions.

As with everything MoPA does, the Museum receives more visitors on weekends than on weekdays. Similarly, more guests attend during public and school holidays compared to the school term. Therefore, your ability to positively impact the organisation is more significant during these times. It is expected that you will be regularly available on weekends, school holidays, and public holidays.

Core Disciples:

1: Ticketing Administration & Communication: You'll need to make a calm and timely response when juggling a phone line that rings for three hours non-stop on the busiest days while ensuring every guest receives impeccable service. You will also manage ticketing administration requirements, answer ad-hoc questions via email, manage booking change requests, and issue credits and refunds, among other tasks.

2: Parties & Excursion Planning: This function involves issuing and reconciling invoices and booking data, gathering guest information, communicating those needs to the museum team, and preparing guests for an optimal experience.

3: Sales and other inquiries, including Museum support:
The role involves managing sales and responding to inquiries related to the Museum's offerings, which may include tickets, memberships, events, and other related products and services. The position also involves supporting the Museum's operation by ensuring the appropriate team members are adequately informed.

To be considered for this position, you must:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adopt a specific tone that aligns with our organisation's values.

  • Experience managing high-volume tasks without missing any details.

  • A bubbly, positive attitude and persona, and the ability to maintain an impeccable level of service.

Kitchen Hand /Cook

Role description:

We are looking for talented, efficient, passionate full-on foodies to pop into the Museum each morning and prep the Geelong Museum’s cafe for a successful day of food trade. On any given day, this may include managing stock levels, placing orders, overseeing the sourcing and receipt of top quality ingredients from a network of local providers, and then most importantly - all the preparation of the food that MoPA will serve through both the cafe and to our gorgeous party guests, supporting our very busy party schedule.

Core Responsibilities:

MoPA’s cafe provides a relatively simple but very carefully considered food service to guests of the Museum. As a member of the team overseeing this food operation, you will likely be the first person into work each morning, evaluating the Museums food requirements for the next few days, and ensuring the appropriate goods and ingredients are available, preparing those ingredients to make snacks, meals, platters, etc that meet the requirements of the day’s trade, maintaining the exceptional quality standards we’re famous for at MoPA, and iterating the menu to try new things and build on the success of this gorgeous little cafe.

To be considered for this position, you must

  • Have first-hand experience doing much of what we need you to do here at MoPA. Specifically, ordering and managing food levels and suppliers, prepping cafe food for service, maintaining cleanliness and operational excellence to the highest of standards in a busy venue-based hospitality operation.

  • Be a born ‘hospo’ person… A naturally fun, bubbly, positive personality - a breath of fresh air in everything you do!

Museum Management

Role description:

MoPA is a large, busy, 24/7/365 operation. Managing the entire team, and the entire operation every day of the year, is a huge gig for any one person - that’s why we share it among a group of Museum Managers we call (not surprisingly!) our Museum Management Team.

This team plays a HUGE role in the success of the overall operation. Acting as a “Second in Charge”, if you will, Museum Managers works hand-in-hand with the Museum’s General Manager, taking on many of the responsibilities required to ensure the Museum runs as smooth as silk, every single day of the year.

Whenever the General Manager isn’t on the floor, the buck stops solely with the Museum Manager (that’s you). As a Senior Member of the MoPA team, you will epitomise the quality of interaction with guests that we wish for every member of the team to have. You will demonstrate the benchmark of our culture and desired behaviours, and support the broader team to operate at the same level through consistent training and feedback.

Alongside the General Manager, you will collaborate with your colleagues to hire, train, manage and maintain the biggest, bestest team of casual, part-time and full-time team members that you’ve ever been part of assembling before. This casual work force you will manage ultimately determines the Management Team and Museum’s success, and so you will assist General Management and your fellow Museum Managers in the implementation of all the necessary people systems that ensure every team member is engaged, learning, measured, delivering, receiving and implementing feedback, and doing the best job they’re capable of doing.

It probably goes without saying that Museum Managers are exposed to pivotal leadership and management responsibilities; an incredible opportunity to learn the ropes and put yourself in great stead for progression into General Management roles and responsibilities at MoPA’s growing network of Children’s Museums. And so if General Management is your aspiration, assisting the GM in this role of Manager is a truly fantastic way to build your skills and experience, in readiness for this huge step.

To be considered for this position, you will:

  • Be able to demonstrate proven success in positions of influence, team management (hiring, performance management, training, etc),

  • Be BORN to deliver a magical guest experience, with years of practice in a similar family environment, perhaps even an early learning environment, meeting the diverse needs of a very large, very busy, family environment

  • Be available to work most weekends (because weekends represent the greatest opportunity for you to ensure the largest number of visitors have the best experience)

Marketing Manager

Role description: (Is this not the ‘dream marketing gig’!?)

You will promote and grow something that brings truly meaningful value into the world; something that has a positive impact in the community; something that enriches lives, that is already in high demand, that is growing rapidly, and that has a story that’s just begging to be told to more people.

MoPA operate world-class Children’s Museums. Our NPS is off-the-charts already, but we’re working tirelessly to ensure it’s improving further every day. And whilst the MoPA experience already ‘sells itself’ we’re really quite excited to see how much more growth is possible if we do more than just the basic marketing we’re doing today.

Primarily, the responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Write and deploy a perfectly on-brand advertising plan, predominantly digital (but not exclusively so), with disciplined performance tracking and a focus on continual optimisation

  • Extract, sort, segment and leverage a wealth of transactional data to understand our customers, products and margins intimately, then use this understanding to identify opportunities and deploy tactics to exploit those opportunities via predominantly automated campaigns to customer segments

  • Collaborate with our amazing team (primarily our Head of Learning, Creative Director and our truly incredible team of 70+ Educators) to write and deploy a comprehensive content and communication strategy that better articulates, to both prospective and existing customers, the impact more creative and play-based learning can have on a child development

  • Develop a Membership and/or Loyalty strategy to deliver more value to members far beyond their visit to a physical location, and ultimately grow the MoPA tribe and mission both inside and outside of the Museums!

  • Deploy an eCommerce strategy to take our 'gift shop’ online, with regular eCom functionality but also brand merch, third party distribution and registry opportunities, and more.

To be considered for this position:

  • This role is as big and exciting as you want to make it. To be successful you needn’t have experience in ALL facets of the opportunity that exists for MoPA (as outlined above) but you will have experience and proof that you can succeed in at least the first three responsibilities noted above (brand and tactical advertising, segmented campaigns and automation, and content production and distribution).
